Custom fitting for Mizuno golf clubs
Mizuno custom shafts and grips allow every golf club to be built precisely to the player’s specifications.
Custom fitting helps you choose the correct combination of shaft, grip and club setup to optimise feel, consistency and performance.
All Mizuno custom equipment for Europe is assembled at Mizuno’s Cumbernauld facility in Scotland – often referred to as “Little Yoro”.
Assembly procedures follow the same strict quality standards as Mizuno’s custom line in Yoro, Japan, ensuring consistent build quality.
European custom orders are typically dispatched within 15–20 working days when all components are in stock.
Delivery times may vary depending on destination. All golf clubs ordered on our website are produced as custom orders.
Driver shafts
Shaft flex explained
Shaft flex describes how much the shaft bends during the swing and has a direct influence on launch, spin and shot consistency. Choosing the correct flex helps match the shaft to your swing speed and tempo.
- L / F1 / F2: Ladies flex – very flexible, designed for slower swing speeds.
- R2: Light Regular – softer than Regular, suitable for smooth swings and moderate swing speeds.
- A: Senior flex – softer profile for slower to moderate swing speeds.
- R: Regular flex – suitable for most average swing speeds with a smooth to moderate tempo.
- S: Stiff flex – for faster swing speeds and more aggressive tempos.
- X: Extra Stiff flex – designed for very fast swing speeds and strong, aggressive swings.
Some shafts use numerical flex designations instead of letters:
- 5.0: Regular
- 5.5: Regular–Stiff
- 6.0: Stiff
- 6.5: Extra Stiff
If you are between flexes, choosing the softer option usually provides better feel and launch for most players.
Shaft weight and trajectory explained
Shaft weight influences swing speed, control and overall feel, while trajectory describes the typical launch height the shaft promotes. Both parameters should be considered together when selecting the correct driver shaft.
- Lightweight shafts (40–55g): help increase swing speed and promote a higher launch, often benefiting players with slower swing speeds or those seeking more carry distance.
- Mid-weight shafts (55–65g): provide a balanced combination of speed, stability and control, suitable for the majority of amateur golfers.
- Heavier shafts (65g+): offer increased stability and tighter dispersion, preferred by players with faster swing speeds and stronger tempos.
Trajectory indicates the typical ball flight produced by the shaft:
- High trajectory: promotes higher launch and longer carry, useful for players who struggle to get the ball airborne.
- Mid trajectory: offers a neutral, versatile ball flight suitable for most playing conditions.
- Low trajectory: produces a flatter flight with reduced spin, often preferred by high swing speed players.
When in doubt, choosing a mid-weight shaft with a mid trajectory provides the most versatile and forgiving driver setup.

Shaft selection for Mizuno hybrids
Hybrid shafts are based on the same core principles as driver and fairway wood shafts in terms of flex, weight and trajectory. However, hybrids are designed to bridge the gap between long irons and fairway woods, placing greater emphasis on control, consistency and accuracy.
Compared to drivers and fairway woods, hybrid shafts are typically heavier and offer more stability to support controlled ball flight from a variety of lies. For a detailed explanation of shaft flex, weight and trajectory, refer to the driver shaft guide above.

Shaft selection for Mizuno irons and wedges
Iron and wedge shafts play a critical role in feel, consistency, distance control and shot dispersion. Unlike drivers and fairway woods, iron shafts are selected primarily to match swing tempo, preferred feedback and repeatable ball flight.
Steel vs graphite iron shafts
Mizuno iron shafts are available in both steel and graphite options, and the difference is not defined by material alone. Modern steel and graphite shafts overlap significantly in weight and performance characteristics.
- Steel shafts: traditionally associated with stability, precise feedback and tighter dispersion. Steel iron shafts are available in a wide range of weights, from lighter designs comparable to graphite, up to very heavy tour-weight options.
- Graphite shafts: offer excellent vibration dampening and improved comfort. Modern graphite iron shafts range from ultra-light designs to heavier, highly stable performance options.
Choosing between steel and graphite should be based on feel preference, desired feedback and physical comfort rather than material alone.
Iron shaft weight explained
Shaft weight is one of the most important fitting parameters for irons, directly influencing swing tempo, control and consistency. Both steel and graphite iron shafts can be grouped into the following weight categories:
- Ultra-light graphite shafts (48–70 g): typically used in ladies and lightweight regular flex options, helping maximise swing speed, launch and comfort.
- Lightweight shafts (70–95 g): include both graphite and lighter steel designs, offering easier swing speed and reduced fatigue with good playability.
- Mid-weight shafts (95–115 g): provide a balanced combination of stability, feel and control, making them the most versatile option for many golfers.
- Heavy shafts (120–130 g+): offer maximum control and consistency, preferred by players with faster swings and strong, aggressive tempos.
Iron shaft flex follows the same designations as driver shafts, but in iron play the combination of weight and flex is more important than flex alone.
Selecting the correct iron shaft weight and flex helps optimise distance gapping, trajectory control and shot repeatability throughout the set.

Grip selection for Mizuno golf clubs
The golf grip is the only point of contact between the player and the club, making grip selection critical for comfort, control and consistency. Choosing the correct grip size, texture and feel helps promote a relaxed grip pressure and more repeatable swings.
Grip size explained
Grip size influences hand action and clubface control during the swing.
- Undersize: suitable for smaller hands or players seeking increased hand action.
- Standard: the most common size, offering balanced feel and control for most golfers.
- Midsize: reduces excessive hand movement, often preferred by players with larger hands or those seeking more stability.
- Jumbo / Oversize: minimises hand action and grip pressure, helping players with hand or joint discomfort.
Grip core size (58 / 60 / 61)
Grip core size refers to the inner diameter of the grip and affects the final grip thickness when installed. Smaller core sizes (e.g. 58) result in a slightly thicker grip on standard shafts, while larger core sizes (e.g. 61) produce a thinner overall feel.
Round vs ribbed / ALIGN grips
- Round grips: provide a uniform feel and allow for hand position flexibility.
- Ribbed / ALIGN grips: feature a raised reminder to assist with consistent hand placement.
Grip material and feel
- Rubber grips: offer durability, feedback and all-weather performance.
- Cord grips: provide maximum traction, especially in wet conditions.
- Wrap-style grips: deliver a softer, cushioned feel with excellent comfort.
Grip preference is highly personal, but selecting the correct size and feel can significantly improve comfort and consistency throughout the swing.
